J. Adam Smitherman, MD

About J. Adam

Dr. Smitherman became a physician because it provided an opportunity to serve people profoundly and personally. He chose Orthopedics because it offers interaction with people to determine their goals for restoring function and activity. He finds great joy in telling a child that his or her broken arm has healed, getting an athlete back on the playing field, or helping adults remain active and independent.

After earning a summa cum laude Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering at Mississippi State University, Dr. Smitherman entered the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and received his Doctor of Medicine degree in 2005. He continued his medical training with an Orthopedic residency at the Greenvilorthole Hospital System, University of South Carolina School of Medicine. During that time, he studied sports medicine and surgical techniques at the Steadman-Hawkins Clinic of the Carolinas. He went on to complete a fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at the University of Florida.

Dr. Smitherman enjoys spending time with his wonderful wife and three children. They love to travel, play sports, and enjoy the outdoors together.
