Donny Stokes, MD

About Donny

Dr. Stokes’ medical journey began when he enlisted as a combat medic in the Mississippi Army National Guard and worked as a nationally registered emergency medical technician, followed by becoming a registered nurse and working in multiple areas (mainly in the emergency room and cardiac catheterization lab). At that point, Dr. Stokes obtained a direct commission as a second lieutenant in the United States Army Reserve. Dr. Stokes is a veteran and was activated during Desert Shield/Desert Storm. Graduating medical school in 2004, Dr. Stokes completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. He served as chief medical resident and went on to complete his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. Dr. Stokes is board certified in both, internal medicine and cardiovascular disease, and is a member of the American College of Cardiology. He has been active in research studies, including projects with the Jackson Heart Study and also a study on IgE and its relation to heart disease. Dr. Stokes practiced invasive cardiology in Columbus, Mississippi, where he also served as the cardiac rehab medical director, before joining the Jackson Heart Clinic in 2017. Dr. Stokes and his wife, Jenna, reside in Brandon, Mississippi, where he still enjoys spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, studying the Bible, and staying busy with his daughter, Swayze, and her involvement in extracurricular activities.
