Greetings
from King's Daughters
Medical Center Foundation
As
we prepare for the
upcoming holidays,
we are so grateful
for the many blessing
that we have received
this year at KDMC.
We continue to grow
and expand our service
lines to patients
and families all
over southwest Mississippi.
We have added new
primary care physicians
and specialists
to our outstanding
medical community.
Our facility looks
great with upgrades
continuing in our
surgery department,
outpatient center,
imaging, administration,
and information
systems. We recently
ended our fiscal
year with a healthy
operating margin
and good financials.
Dr.
John Turba,
Orthpaedic surgeon
joined our medical
staff in February
and opened Brookhaven
Sports Medicine
and Orthopaedic
Clinic. Dr.
Turba spent many
years in Cincinnati,
Ohio after his fellowship
with one of the
founding fathers
of Sports Medicine,
Dr. Jack Hughston.
Brad
Martin,
Physician’s
Assistant, joined
Dr. Turba shortly
after the practice
was opened. Dr.
Turba and Brookhaven
Sports Medicine
have been very well
received in our
community. We continue
to recruit for Orthopedic
Services.
Dr.
Cheryl Gladney,
Internal Medicine,
joined our Hospitalist
Program in May.
Dr. Gladney brings
10 years of Hospitalist
experience to our
inpatient medicine
program. Dr. Gladney
is an avid hunter
and fisherwoman.
She lives on a large
farm in Terry, MS.
Dr.
Robert Walker,
Family Medicine,
opened Southern
Primary Care in
August near the
hospital on Brookman
Drive. Dr. Walker
has received a good
response in the
community and has
seen a steady flow
of patients into
his practice. Dr.
Walker attended
physician training
for the Wound Care
Center and has become
part of the physician
panel. He will be
joined at Southern
Primary Care this
summer by
Dr. Blaine
Britt,
Medicine/Pediatrics
physician in his
final year of residency
at the University
of South Alabama.
Dr.
Sonya Clemmons,
Family Medicine,
joined the staff
of King’s
Daughters Medical
Clinic on the Boulevard.
Dr. Clemmons, a
Milsaps and University
Medical Center graduate,
completed residency
at UMC and moved
to Brookhaven this
summer.
Our
Imaging Department
is near completion
of installation
of the Toshiba
Titan X MRI System.
This state of the
art technology provides
the largest MRI
bore available today.
It is recognized
as the quietest
MRI on the market.
This new magnet
will allow KDMC
to offer cardiac
MRI, vascular studies
of the peripheral
circulation of the
legs and examinations
of the gall bladder
and associated anatomy.
We will add an Aquillion
16 and
Aquillion 64
CT Scanner in early
2012.
In
March we completed
installation of
the new Hologic
Selenia Digital
Mammography System.
This
full-field digital
mammography system
represents the most
current technology
available today.
The mammography
suite and waiting
area have been completely
renovated to offer
peace and comfort
to our patients
and families.
2011
has provided a number
of opportunities
for improvements
in productivity,
case management,
and coding and documentation.
QHR, our management
partner, provided
consults to us to
address some of
these areas. The
results of this
work provided more
accurate billing
and reimbursement;
effective communication
with hospitalist
and physicians and
the right mix of
staff for our patients.
Again King’s
Daughters Medical
Center was chosen
by CareChex
for awards in the
categories of clinical
care, patient satisfaction,
and patient safety.
We are in the top
10% in Mississippi
for:
- Overall
Surgical Care
- Overall
Hospital Care
- Overall
Medical Care
KDMC
is the only hospital
in the state to
be in the top 10%
for these 3 categories
three years in a
row.

Healthgrades
again
named King's
Daughters
one of the
Nation's 100
Best Hospitals
for Prostatectomy
in 2012. This
is a 5-star
rating in
prostatectomy
for the 3rd
consecutive
year. This
is a great
honor for
our Urologists,
Dr. Jeff Clark
and Dr. Jeffrey
Boyd and the
entire surgical
team.
An
Obesity
Research Project
is underway
that will
focus on childhood
obesity. We
have applied
for a number
of grants.
A Performance
Center that
will complement
our Fitness
Center is
moving forward
and should
open in May
of 2012. Phil
Campbell,
our COO, has
worked very
hard in the
development
of his Sprint
8 program
and how it
can be incorporated
as a solution
to obesity.
The Performance
Center also
will be an
important
part of our
goal to build
a premiere
Orthopedic
Program.

During the summer
we had the Great PI Adventure.
This team building
effort was held in
a large tent in a
garden behind the
hospital. It became
known as PI boot camp.
Alvin Hoover and Phil
Campbell were the
coaches and members
of the management
council functioned
as facilitators for
22 sessions over a
three week period.
Performance Improvement
activities and team
building exercises
were introduced, implemented
and discussed by every
team. The mandatory
program was attended
by 96% of KDMC staff
and we learned many
things about ourselves
and our coworkers.
It was a very meaningful
adventure.
As
you can see, we
have been very busy
this year delivering
quality health and
wellness in a Christian
environment. We
hope that everyone
has a safe and Happy
Holiday.
