Football season is finally here, and this fall, King’s Daughters Medical Center will be selecting a weekly Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week in the Southwest Mississippi area. This week consists of two young men that had exceptional performances in their respective games last Friday.
Offensive Player of the Week

This week’s Offensive Player of the Week goes to Wesson High School’s Senior RB, Steve Jones. Despite losing 32-19 to North Pike, the defending Class 4A South State Champions, Wesson played very well in what proved to be a gritty contest. Jones led the Cobras with 105 yards rushing on 18 carries and 1 TD. This is an average of 5.8 yards per carry, which is an impressive feat against such a stiff defense. The head man at Wesson, Coach Clopton, had this to say about his prized RB, “Steve has been extremely consistent for us this year, he’s running the ball extremely hard. He doesn’t go down on first contact and he’s wide open on every play.” On Friday, September 2, Jones and the Cobras host Mize High School at 7:30 p.m.
Defensive Player of the Week

This week the Defensive Player of the Week selection goes to Bogue Chitto High School’s Senior ILB, Kevin Brothern. Last Friday, The Bobcats shutout the Enterprise Yellow Jackets 39-0 in a lopsided game on Harry Cole Field. Brothern contributed greatly to this shutout with a fantastic defensive performance registering 10 tackles for the night. He is 6’1’’ 225 lbs., and shows good speed and instincts on the field. Division-1 FBS programs such as Mississippi State and Southern Miss are currently looking at him. While neither school has offered yet, if Brothern continues to play at this level his stock will certainly rise. Next week, on Friday September 2, the Bobcats will host district rival, University Christian at 7:30 p.m.
Congratulations from King’s Daughters Medical Center to both recipients on two great performances. Who will be next week’s Players of the Week? Be sure to check out www.kdmc.org next Monday to see which two top performers showed off their skills on the gridiron.
