As the regular season is coming down the homestretch, the great performances just keep rolling in. KDMC is proud to recognize to more outstanding athletes for their impressive games this past weekend.
Offensive Player of the Week
This week’s Offensive Player of the Week comes from BHS’s standout senior, Greg Sims. This is his second time to be recognized for outstanding play, and KDMC’s second repeat award winner. Sims helped lead the Panthers to 35-0 shutout victory over Stone County High School. He had 130 yards on just 14 carries averaging 9.2 yards per carry. Anytime you have a runner almost averaging 10 yards per carry, you can bet your night is going pretty good as a coach. Sims led the way for BHS with 130 yards in an offensive explosion that featured the Panthers gaining a total of 300 yards on the ground for the game. The thing that sets Sims apart from other guys out there is not his size, but his speed and agility. This is allowing him to produce solid numbers on a consistent basis for the Panthers. BHS is currently 7-1 and have proven that they are a force to be reckoned with in the region, and if Sims continues to average 10 yards per carry, they’ll only get better.
Defensive Player of the Week
This week’s Defensive Player of the Week is Bogue Chitto’s sophomore LB, Jermaine Blackwell. While the Bobcats lost to the Stringer Red Devils 31-18, Blackwell played a fantastic game. Blackwell, who also plays OL on the offensive side of the ball, led the Bobcats with 17 tackles on the night in what was a very physical matchup. Though Bogue Chitto lost the contest by double digits, don’t let that fool you. This game was close in the 4th quarter until a series of untimely penalties set Stringer up with great field position to seal the win. While a loss like this hurts, it has got to be comforting for the coaching staff to see this type of performance out of their young LB. He is averaging 10.2 tackles a game. This kid is a sophomore and recorded 17 tackles in one game; that is absolutely ridiculous. One thing is for sure – the future looks bright for the Bogue Chitto defense. With this loss the Bobcats fall to 7-2 and will face St. Aloysius on Friday to stay in the playoff race.
Congratulations from KDMC to both recipients on two game-changing performances. We look forward to seeing some more awesome games as the season winds down! Be sure to go to www.kdmc.org next Monday to see which players stood out this week.
