Tina
Reed-Hearn
Board
Certified Family
Nurse Practitioner
Tina
Reed-Hearn, Board
Certified Family
Nurse Practitioner,
knew at an early
age she wanted
a career in the
medical field.
She loved animals
and had frequently
thought about
a career as a
veterinarian.
It was Reed-Hearn's
grandmother that
was the motivation
behind her decision
to begin her medical
career. Her grandmother
was a non-compliant
diabetic who lived
next door. Reed-Hearn
was an integral
part of her healthcare,
helping with medications
and going to doctor
appointments.
She enjoyed helping
her grandmother
and knew she wanted
to help others.
Reed-Hearn graduated
from Monticello
High School then
spent four years
in the United
States Army during
Desert Storm.
She attended The
University of
Southern Mississippi
School of Nursing
and received her
nursing degree
in 1997. Reed-Hearn
began her nursing
career at King's
Daughters Medical
Center in telemetry.
She later worked
in preoperative
and postoperative
surgical departments.
"It's
a calling. You have
to care."
During this time,
Reed-Hearn yearned
for more one-on-one
care with her
patients and more
time with her
family, especially
her daughter.
Reed-Hearn decided
to pursue a nurse
practitioner degree.
In 2005, Reed-Hearn
earned a Master
of Science in
Nursing from the
University of
Southern Mississippi
School of Nursing.
While pursuing
the Master of
Science in Nursing
and completing
her thesis on
The Relationship
of Job Satisfaction
and Depression
Among Nurses,
Reed-Hearn continued
to work at King's
Daughters Medical
Center.
Reed-Hearn has
worked at the
King's Daughters
Medical clinic
since it opened.
She works three
half-days and
two full days
per week. She
averages about
20 patients per
day. While working
in a general practice
facility, she
said the most
common issues
they treat are
diabetes and high
blood pressure.
Reed-Hearn is
very passionate
about her career
choice. She said,
"It's a calling.
You have to care."
She quoted a passage
by Ralph Waldo
Emerson as a motto
to which she works
by: To know even
one life has breathed
easier because
you have lived.
This is to have
succeeded.
Reed-Hearn compares
King's Daughters
Medical Center
to a well-oiled
machine. She said
the doctors and
staff are wonderful
and do their best
to help each other.
Reed-Hearn and
her husband of
20 years, Darrylyn
Hearn have one
daughter, 13 year
old Anaston Claire.
They also have
a 17 year old
Pomeranian, Kiefer
and four year
old Pomeranian,
Paris. She is
a member of Bethel
Baptist Church
in Monticello.
Reed-Hearn is
a member of The
Honor Society
of Nursing, Sigma
Theta Tau and
The Honor Society
of Phi Kappa Phi.
She is also a
member of the
University of
Southern Mississippi
Alumni Association
and the Humane
Society.
