King's Daughters Medical Center is living up to its motto of "Providing quality heath and wellness in a Christian environment."

KDMC was presented with three awards that recognized the hospital for outstanding patient care.

Mollie Virden of HealthGrades, a health care rating company, presented CEO Alvin Hoover with 2012 awards for Outstanding Patient Care, Excellency in Prostatectomy and for being rated among HeathGrades' America's 100 Best Hospitals for Prostatectomy.

Hoover said the awards show just how hard KDMC works.

"They are an affirmation of the work that we do," he said. "We want to provide quality health and wellness in a Christian environment and this is evidence of that."

Nearly 4,000 hospitals nationwide were eligible for the outstanding patient experience award, but KDMC was among only 332 that were recognized.

The award went to hospitals in the top 5 percent in the nation for patient experience, which was evaluated based on patient satisfaction ratings.

KDMC's Urology Department was recognized with two awards.

The 100 best hospitals in prostatectomy award winners were required to have a five-star rating to be eligible, which KDMC did. Only five hospitals in Mississippi received the award.

The department has won the Prostatectomy Excellence Award for three years in a row from 2010-2012 and has been rated in the top 5 percent in the nation and state in 2010-2012. KDMC was ranked second in Mississippi for prostatectomy in 2012.

Hoover said KDMC is always looking to improve.

"You've always trying to do things better and better every year," he said. "Health care is very competitive."

KDMC won the awards despite being a smaller hospital in a smaller area that competes against much larger hospitals with larger staffs and budgets. Hoover said winning despite that shows a great deal about KDMC.

"For many years people always thought you get better health care in big cities," he said. "This proves you get great health care right here in Brookhaven."

The recognition is a reward for every KDMC worker's hard work, Hoover said.

"This truly is a reflection of the work our employees do," he said. "You can't win these without employees that are engaged and want to make a difference."

He also thanked the hospital's board of trustees.

"Our board of trustees provide direction and resources we need to accomplish our mission," said Hoover.
